The lighting plan

Light 1 · key

Your cyan candidate

Illuminate skin and garment with the same colored source for a comparison.

Softbox · -35° from the camera direction · 1.5 m from its target · height 2 m.

Illustrative starting placement; adjust to the subject, beam and space.

Make the test frames

  1. First make a neutral-light frame of the same garment and pose.
  2. Fit the gel without changing the camera WB or processing. Re-meter for a useful exposure.
  3. Compare fabric and skin independently. Record actual material and gel identity.

Keep camera WB fixed for comparisons. Begin with your neutral key reference, then adjust deliberately.

Meter with the actual gel fitted. Keep filtration loss separate from your chosen creative level. Unknown source output and camera settings remain unknown; no universal flash fraction is implied.

When the first frame differs

  • A red garment under a cyan source may appear dark because little useful red light is available to reflect.
  • Adding power cannot replace wavelengths that the source/filter combination barely supplies. Test another gel or a neutral contribution.
Troubleshoot my version

Adapt the kit

  • Two lights: add a separately aimed neutral garment light if natural wardrobe color matters.
  • Three lights: reserve the third light for background separation after the material problem is solved.

Evidence & publication record

Editorial status: published. Evidence status: illustrative.

No photographer is claimed to have tested this setup. No finished photograph, actual meter readings or original flash settings have been supplied. Replacing a diagram with an illustration does not establish testing evidence.

Sources, evidence & screen previews

These tools propose experiments. Screen colors are appearance targets, not recovered spectra, gel identities or guaranteed camera results. Numeric measurement inputs are supplied by you; publication and studio testing are separate checks.
