Your session, built around your goals

What you can practice in your workshop.

Exposure & flash power.

Choose a working aperture, read an incident flash meter, and set power from a measured starting point. Practice one-stop changes and balance flash with ambient light.

Light placement & falloff.

Explore softbox distance, direction, grids, and spill. Compare the light on the face and background, then meter the result. Use the light falloff calculator to plan an experiment.

A repeatable portrait setup.

Build a setup that matters to your work, from one off-camera flash to key and fill. Record readings and settings in the free tools so you have a starting point for your next shoot.

Bring your camera and the equipment you would like to understand better. We will agree on a focused plan in advance: exposure and ambient balance, multi-light portraits, or Sony α9 III flash timing. Choose one main goal for the three-hour session so there is time to practice and verify what you learn.

Who is this workshop for?

Photographers who want more control over manual flash, from first off-camera setups to a more deliberate multi-light workflow. Tell us your current experience so the session can meet you there.

Are these private or group photography workshops?

These are private, one-to-one sessions for a single photographer. Your three hours are tailored to your experience and goals, with time to ask questions and practice the adjustments yourself.

Where and when are Sacramento workshops held?

Workshops are arranged individually in the Sacramento area. Photographers from Roseville and nearby communities are welcome. Date, session location, equipment, and any model or studio arrangements are confirmed before booking; there is no fixed group-class calendar.

Core exposure and lighting principles transfer across brands. The α9 III timing portion is specific to that camera. List your equipment when you inquire so we can confirm the session is a good fit.
